Practicing Workstations...

Forming sight words!

Reviewing kindergarten words with dry erase markers.

"Rainbow writing" words in the room.

"Squiggle Writing"  ...We make a squiggle into something and write about it.

Working hard! The woman in this picture is Mrs. Lajiness. She is our classroom aid.

Short a practice!

Having fun and learning a lot!

The first few weeks...

FIRST DAY PHOTOS!

The first few weeks have been spent getting to know each other, rules, expectation etc... It has been nice getting to know your child and I hope to continue to do that. I will begin "Teacher Tuesdays" this week. I choose 5 children to bring their lunch to my classroom and eat lunch with me! This gives me a chance to ask questions and get to know my students better.
We have begun a Social Studies unit with many parts: About Me, My Family and My School.
We also have been learning about respect, responsibility, and  school wide safety procedures.
Science will begin in a few weeks. We will start a unit on weather!
In Math, we have been focusing on greater than, less than, how many more, reading and creating graphs, the terms "sum" and "addend", skip counting and place value.  We also have learned a few addition strategies such as counting on using a number line.
For Literacy, we have worked with short a, the ck ending , and short i. We have been reviewing the reading strategy "stretch out the words". We also have been working on comprehension strategies such as  using the pictures, making inferences and making text-to-self connections.
In Writing, we have been focusing on using lower case letters, spaces and adding details.
I hope to begin reading workstations this week. I will post pictures of the children working at these hands-on stations!

Just a reminder that Spelling homework in due on Friday. The Spelling test is Friday morning.  Please read the fluency book  as often as you can. Please return the fluency books by the following Monday. Library books are also due Monday.  Please note that if your child has a star, check, or sticker on his/her paper that means that it has been checked. It may have been used as an assessment which means I have record of it. There will be papers that come home without anything on it. That may mean that it was a practice page or it was a practice page done at a center. I also have pages that children can do if they get done with their work early. I do not check those pages.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
I hope to post on this site about every other week!
Thanks!
